Artspace and the Northfield Middle School

The NDDC hosts a public meeting the first Tuesday of every month that offers insight into current events downtown.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, Artspace Projects representatives will discuss their work on the Northfield Middle School Reuse project with members of the NDDC. Artspace, which aims to create or preserve affordable housing and studio space for artists – is looking at ways to renovate the local middle school once the new school opens in fall 2004.

The meeting will be held from 8 to 9:30 a.m. in the Riverview Conference Room (lower level) of the Archer House at Third and Division streets. The public is welcome, and coffee and a light snack will be served.

Artspace President Kelley Lindquist and Vice President for ResourceDevelopment Wendy Holmes will make a presentation about the proposed project and answer questions. Artspace is scheduled to present a conceptual design for the middle school to the Northfield community by June 15.

Founded in 1979, Artspace initially was an advocate for artists’ spaceneeds. Its projects in the Twin Cities include the Hennepin Center for the Arts in downtown Minneapolis and the Northern Warehouse in St. Paul’s Lowertown district. Since the mid-1980s, Artspace has also become a developer of projects and is working nationwide.
