On Monday, I attended a “power lunch”, called by RENew Northfield‘s Executive Director, Bruce Anderson.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss draft recommendations to the City of Northfield concerning specific actions that could make the community significantly more bicycle and pedestrian friendly. Pictured from left to right around the table are Dan Bergeson, NDDC, Howard Merriam, City of Northfield, Urmila Malvadkar, concerned citizen, Bill Ostrem, concerned citizen, and Bruce Anderson, RENew Northfield.
This gathering reminded me of the NDDC’s Retail Cabal, an informal group that meets irregularly at the Cow or the Rueb and is responsible for such things as the Welcome Students Campaign, the Parents Weekend Bags, and the Municipal Historic Sign, among other things. Thus, I have high hopes for this new coming together of motivated people.
They have a several action steps in mind, including getting some of their ideas into the Planning Commission’s current work on updating the Comprehensive Plan. Join ArtSwirl‘s “Ride with the Mayors” , Saturday, August 5th at 9 am, starting at the Northfield City Hall for breaking news.
