Temporary Detour Coming to Downtown Northfield

Heidi Hamilton, City of Northfield’s Director of Public Works, tipped me off to this possibility a couple of weeks ago. Now it’s a reality.

ROCHESTER, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation will post a temporary 2-day detour for the Highway 3 construction project in Northfield on Thursday, July 13, and Friday, July 14, 2006, weather
permitting.

Per a request by the city of Northfield, a detour is needed to install a sanitary sewer line. The City has requested the closure of Highway 3 from Woodley Street North to Fifth Street.

Temporary Detour: traffic will be routed along Woodley Street, Water Street and Fifth Street.

Regular construction continues with Stage 2, Phase 1, of the 3-year construction schedule for Highway 3 from Third Street to the Cannon River Bridge in downtown Northfield. The total Hwy. 3 project should be completed in October.

Mn/DOT reminds motorists to SLOW DOWN in the work zone and NEVER enter a roadway that has been blocked with barriers or cones. Please join us in a safety partnership. For statewide traffic, construction and travel information visit www.511mn.org or call 511.

I guess I would encourage Just Food, Mr. Movies and China Buffet to “wave their flags” for this two day “marketing opportunity”.
