The arts continue to swirl through our community this weekend as ArtSwirl comes to a close and the regular flow of creativity continues in our Art Town.
It is a rich time for the visual arts. The NAG‘s Annual Membership Show in the Art Guild’s Gallery features the work of more than 50 artists in a non-juried, multi-media exhibition. Come see the incredible inspiration and talked-about talent of local artists in this show. Next, it’s the return of the rods at ArtOrg. Using “pen and ink, pencil and color pencil”, Nick Sinclair “tries to bring his own style to automotive art”. Then, there’s the Village School Student Art Display. Check out the creativity of these students all day Saturday, August 12th. Finally, it’s the Off-Campus Studies Photography Exhibit at the Gould Library on Carleton College‘s campus. This 20th annual exhibit features finalists from the annual photography contest and features photographs from around the world.
The performing arts offer much to Northfield this week too. Tuesday features Northfield Women Poets, 7 pm at the NAG Theater. Wednesday night offers Books and Stars for families, 7 pm at Central Park, Writers Night, 7 pm at the Northfield Arts Guild, and the Bridge Chamber Music Festival, 7:30 pm, with the Minneapolis Quartet at the United Methodist Church. Thursday, Friday and Saturday night is Theater in the (Central) Park, 7pm, offering Moliere’s Tartuffe. Saturday night the Minnesota Dolce Recorder Quartet will be playing at 4 pm in the NAG Gallery, Charlie Parr will be playing at Hogan Brothers, and Northfield’s own John Manners will be playing at the Tavern. Sunday at 2 pm, it’s Storytellers, 2 pm at the NAG Theater.
Finally, it’s ArtSwirl’s Annual Studio Tour. Visit 10 studios that have been opened up by local artists for viewing on Saturday and Sunday. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see inside the artists’ workspaces.
