…a big weekend of art in Northfield.
Jim, a local artist, long-time Northfield resident and teacher of ceramics at the Northfield Arts Guild, is being recognized as the Artist of Month. Come on down tonight (Thursday, September 21) from 7 to 9 pm, greet Jim and enjoy light refreshments at the Guild.
Then it’s Party with Patsy. On Friday, September 22, 7:30 pm, at the Center for the Arts, there will be a celebration of Patsy Dew’s 15 years at the Guild, most recently as Program Director. Patsy, another local artist, long-time Northfield resident and teacher at the NAG, has been a tremendous contributor to the artistic vitality of our community. The program will start at 8 pm, with goodies, musical and theatrical tributes to start and dancing to follow.
Saturday is the Art Crawl. The Northfield Arts Guild is showing “Melange”, presenting the work of four local artists (Riki Kolbl Nelson, Toni Easterson, Sharol Nau and Rhonda Bank) in a variety of media, ArtOrg is displaying the work of Howard Olson, an artist from North Dakota who does watercolors of the American West, the Carleton College Art Gallery is showing “New Art, New Ideas: Students Curate the Collection”, curated by six Carleton students, opening the doors to the little known Carleton art collection by highlighting works obtained over the past ten years, the Gould Library is exhibiting “Bird X Bird”, works by the artist collective that includes a number of Carleton faculty members, and St. Olaf’s Flaten Art Gallery is showing “A Collector’s Legacy: Richard N. Tetlie”, an exhibit that includes work by Picasso, Munch, Daumier, Sargent and Goya. Local businesses are also participating in the Crawl, with SWAG showing “Works by Local Artist, Carla Thompson”, Circa Restoration Studio showing “In-House Art by Lisa Ebert and Laura Schwartz” and the Ole Store showing ArtOrg’s “Steamroller Prints”.
So help celebrate the Arts in Northfield and come along on the Crawl!
