Adults Only Spelling Bee

Well, maybe that's not the best way to describe it.

It is a spelling bee, and there will be alcoholic beverages available, so although it's open to the public, only adults can participate.

The Friends of the Northfield Public Library, along with the Northfield Downtown Development Corporation and the Grand Event Center, will be hosting a "Spelling Bee for Booker", beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, September 28, at the Grand.

The library's beloved Booker, the "bookmobile" bringing books to day-care centers, pre-schools, low-income apartment buildings, and smaller communities in Rice County, is on it's last legs, or tires, and needs to be replaced. The Friends of the Library have located a good used bus at a reasonable price. The Friends already have nearly half the money needed, and they hope that the Spelling Bee along with other contributions will make up the difference.

So...the Friends of the Library, the Grand Event Center and the NDDC are partnering in a...Spelling Bee for Adults.

Here's how it will work: companies and organizations sponsor teams. Each team includes three people working together to spell the words. There will be prizes for the winners, a drawing for the audience, and plenty of opportunity to socialize with, and boisterously cheer on, your fellow book lovers. For sponsorship information, check out the Friends of the Library Web site.

This event sounds truly both educational and entertaining...
