City Staff, responding to Council and Park Board direction, has organized a Steering Committee and Technical Task Force to assist in the development and preparation of long range Greenway Corridor
Plan. The Greenway Corridor Plan promotes connectivity and protects significant natural resources in the greater Northfield area.
The plan is primarily motivated by the desire to protect the Cannon River and other prominent drainage systems and drainageways in the area. However, the result will ideally create recreation opportunities for area, including connecting city trails with the Mill Towns’ Trail.
The Cannon River is the “central spine” of the plan and a defining element of our authentic downtown. Through this planned connectivity, Downtown Northfield could become accessible to bicyclists throughout the greater Northfield area, creating another opportunity for economic development arising from arts, recreation and culture.
