Doing It Legally in Downtown

KeySkate.jpgWe heard at the NDDC’s Monthly Forum that skateboarding is an art form. Apparently we’ll prove it tonight in downtown Northfield. Grezzo Gallery and the Northfield Union of Youth are hosting an evening dedicated to skaters from 3 to 10 p.m. There’ll be skate demos by the Renegade Board Shop on Bridge Square and a show at Grezzo Gallery featuring Minnesota art by Minnesota skaters with a reception beginning at 5:30 p.m. They’re doing it all with the cooperation of the City of Northfield and the Northfield Police Department. All profits from the event will go towards the new skatepark. Grezzo Gallery is located at 16 Bridge Square, in the heart of downtown.

Also happening in Northfield’s vibrant art scene tonight, ArtOrg opens the exhibit “Brown Box Notes” by Hope Cook, an artist from the University of Minnesota at Mankato. The show features nearly 100 small handmade boxes, exploring the meanings of individual quotes from Kenneth Patchen’s book “Sleepers Awake”. The reception will be tonight from 6 to 9 pm at the ArtOrg Moving Walls Gallery located in the back of 200 Division Street.

Finally, the High School Honors Art Show continues at the Northfield Arts Guild. The work of seniors in Katherine Norrie’s Honor’s Art Class is featured in a show called Inspire Exhale. Artists include Zane Anway, Scott Barvir, Abby Benson, Narula Bilik, Andrea Carpentier, Breanna Clites, Hannah Crippen, Chelsea Findlay, Hannah George, Daniel Haas, Kaitlin Hanzlik, Phoebe Hilleman, Jenna Huberg, Schuyler Huber, Claire Jennings, Megan Kelly, Gabrielle Lee, James Lewis, Laurel Lindberg, Daniel Lohmann, Bianca Lutchen, Meghan McFadden, Ian Sheppard, Nikki Sheppard, and Ashley Zenner. The exhibit opened on Thursday, May 24, and continues through June 16. Come share in this celebration of Northfield’s emerging artists.
