Degenerate Music…in Downtown Northfield, MN

Schulhoff_Mayerova_1931It’s probably possible to find someone who considers any and all music to be degenerate…and I think there are a number of artists in Northfield who strive to produce at least some music that’s at least a little bit degenerate, but, hey, I’ve got to hand it to Carleton College Professor of Music and Director of the Carleton Orchestra Hector Valdivia for producing a concert focusing on the work of historically recognized composers of degenerate music.  The featured creators of this so-called degenerate music include Schulhoff (pictured), Shostakovich, Strauss, and Wagner.
