Downtown Northfield will look more prideful this June thanks to several businesses and individuals who are donating funds to hang pride-flags on the street lamps. Organized by the Friends of Downtown Northfield, the fundraiser raised $2,250 from 21 different donors. In total, 39 pride flags will be flying around Downtown. The flags will, in turn, be donated to the City of Northfield who will be responsible for hanging them each year and storing them.
Owner of Verbena Vinyl and Friends of Downtown Board Member Vicki Scott was inspired to initiate this project because pride is a huge part of our downtown during the month of June. “There is no better way to create a sense of community than to show that our neighbors are celebrated here”

The flags on display are a combination of the North Star on the new Minnesota State Flag and the 11 Rainbow Stripes of the Pride Flag. The flags were purchased from the organization Flags for Good, which donates a portion of its proceeds to relevant causes. Portions of the flag purchase go to several national LGBTQ+ groups including The Trevor Project and The It Gets Better Project.
The Friends of Downtown Northfield would like to thank all of the contributors for this project. Specifically Jessica Peterson-White, owner of Content Bookstore who was able to source the flags for this project as well as contribute monetarily. Laura Mayers of Imminent Brewing who personally doubled her institutional donation. Craig Foley (Mrs. Moxie) of Queenie’s Salon who was the first person to contribute. And, of course, all of the contributors who wish to remain anonymous.
